Choosing the Right Life-Saving Course that Best Suits Your Needs
Step 1: Determine the Type and Focus of the Course.
Do you need training primarily for the general public or for work?
Heartsaver® Courses: Ideal for the general public, teachers, fitness instructors, and those needing basic certification for non-medical workplaces.
Level A Focus: Life-saving techniques focused on Adults only.
Level C Focus: Life-saving techniques for Adults, Children, and Infants.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Courses: Required for Healthcare Professionals (Nurses, Paramedics, Doctors, Dentists, etc.) and First Responders. Focuses on advanced team-based resuscitation skills.
Step 2: Decide on your Course Status: Full or Renewal.
Are you proficient in the necessary skills and knowledge, or are you new to the material? Is your current certification for your workplace approaching its expiration date?
Full/Provider Course: Recommended if this is your first time taking this specific course (Heartsaver or BLS), or if your previous certification has expired. This option provides a comprehensive, paced learning experience.
Renewal Course: Recommended if you have current or recently expired certification and are proficient in the core skills. This option confirms your existing knowledge and is focused on updating techniques.
Step 3: Determine which of our two Learning Formats suits you best.
| Learning Format | Description |
| In-Classroom (Traditional) | A fully in-person learning experience. Our traditional, instructor-led course features both cognitive (knowledge) learning and a thorough hands-on skills practice and testing session for a robust learning experience. |
| Blended Learning (Online & In-Class) | A convenient mix of online, cognitive learning and a shorter, in-classroom skills component. You complete the online portion at your own pace (which can take 1.5–2 hours), and then attend a reduced-time in-class session focused strictly on practising and testing skills with an instructor. |
